best "universal" DB client for OSX
Ive used the predecessor to this software (Navicat Lite) for a while and it was the best DB client for developers that can connect to most of the most popular DBMSs. This software continues that tradition. Its worth paying $50 for this version if it now comes with support and regular upgrades.
the positive:
- good overall functionality for $50 (my personal opinion; I recognize that opinions vary)
- reasonably stable (for me, but I usually only connect to SQL Server/MySQL)
- nice looking UI which makes it easy to do most DB tasks, including schema development and some admin tasks
- support for more advanced stuff like linked servers, server and database triggers, partition functions, etc
the negative:
- for $50, SQL code completion should be included. Its not an enterprise feature so it should not be left out of the "Essentials" edition. If this app were free, you could justify leaving it out, but not for $50. Ill give the app 5 stars when this happens (assuming I dont find any horrible bugs ITMT).
- no support for connecting to JavaDB/Derby.
- no support for connecting to HSQL/H2.
- I dont know if this is possible for an app in the App Store, but the ability to get basic functionality for other databases by installing database drivers.
