Navicat Premium Essentials App Reviews

Missing the filter wizard!

Nice interface but I think that the filter wizard (included in other versions) is an essential/must have feature and should be included in this "Premium Essentials" product version.

good!

its good for mac os!!

Misleading!

There is no backuprestore option on this version, even though it implies "Premium" it is still part of the Essentials package.

Very Good

Been using it now for a few months, I really wish I would have found it sooner. Handles all the basic functions for your db with ease. Its still the essentials version so I didnt go in expecting any premium features, however there are a few. I bought it for a lot more but for ten bucks its a steal!

Outstanding!!

This app looked too good to be true in some ways and the reviews were mixed but I decided it was certainly worth the price to try it out. And, Im certainly glad I did! I work with databases all day and brought my 17" MPB in to give this app a spin. I have Parallels with Windows 7 installed as well. The combination of Win 7 and this app running on Lion gave me a work environment that was much more efficient than the other systems I use. I turn most of the query and data import/export activity over to NaviCat Premium and the applications I monitor are just a sweep gesture away on Win 7. Its amazing how well this works! This application is very fast and Ive yet to experience any kind of problem. its well designed and very intuitive to work with. Great to have access to all types of databases from a single, efficient application. While some purchasers found things it might not do, I think they are ignoring the powerful capabilities it does provide. I think youll really enjoy it!

Great but needs work

I have used this product for years on the Windows platform and the Mac is a great product. My only complaint is that not all features work on the Mac side, mainly report builder and there are some bugs with SQL Dumps for the complete database.

Exactly what I was looking for

This is a great replacement for phpmyadmin. I recommend this for web developers who have to manage or maintain more than one database driven site. If you need automated backup scheduling, you need the Premiere version, not this version. This is a lite version of the product.

I really love this app

works great for me. Good solid tool.

Good, but could use some work

Defintely Worth it but could use upgrades in some areas.

Great basic sql tool

I use this tool every day. its great becuase I can connect to a variety of different databases. Maybe not a full-on dev tool, but this is only an "essentials" version and for that, it works great. It interfaces very nicely with the mac environment. They have more expensive versions for heavy dev work. For $10 (on sale), definitly money well-spent.

Good Admin App

This app has basic administrative functionality. It abstracts the need to know the SQL behind common administrative tasks and makes it easy to perform simple queries. So far, the tool performs as advertised and looks good doing it.

Very Buggy and Crashes too much

I used this application with hopes of being able to manage and write VERY simple sql server stored procedures. The program crashed every time I tried to save a stored proc and will constantly leave me with hanging windows or endless loading bars. Not worth the buy. I cant imagine paying 500$ for the premium/suite version of the program. A huge waste of money, I am a developer and this program has constistently performed subpar.

I wish I didnt buy this

The app is decent but every time I quit out of it when there is an active connection, the connection doesnt automatically close. Its highly frustrating. This has been a bug for a long time and they still havent fixed it.

Good for the price

For $20 it is a pretty good SQL editor. The only problem that I have about it, it doesnt have autocomplete. It is great that I can connect to all the different types of SQL servers. It works really well. Wish i could figure out how to dock the query window with the main window but oh well. I would give it a 5 if it had autocomplete.

Crashs!

This program crashes, often! Very buggy. This program will not preform all opperations that other SQL programs will.

Working with databases is not fun...

I think getting into databases is the worst part of being a Web Designer/Developer, but sometimes you just have to do it. I have really only needed this for MySQL and it sure beats using phpMyAdmin. Had a couple issues now and again with connecting, but I dont even know if it was the fault of the program or my connection or the server or…

Free apps do more

Id love to use this; however, it does not do the basic things that Ive relied on phpmyadmin to do for me as I manage many MySQL databases. PROS: - SSH connection - GUI CONS: - Database Dump (structure + data) doesnt work - No duplicate database functionality

Navigation needs improvement

I dont like that I cant jump in and out of table structures very easily. I have to find the table, click on an Edit button, then it opens in a secondary window in a different tab. The secondary window typically hides the tables and I have to work between the multi-tab and dual windows. Tabs would be nice for those who like them. But, I would prefer more of a one window view. The UI guys should check out how Apples Xcode is designed. It supports both concepts—one window and tabs.

Flexible Database Management Solution

Multiple connections to multiple databases including local SQLite databases. Navicat lets you upgrade your data management capabilities by importing an over-full Excel dataset into a proper SQL table. Manages foreign keys and allows triggers to update multiple tables when you enter changes into a table or attempt to update a view. For iKeithReview… simply drag a tab out of the window and a new window will be formed. This allows you to (for example) see the table structure next to the data table contents or to see two tables side-by-side on the screen. Ive had no trouble exporting a multi-table database including thousands of rows with foreign key relationships and indices. WJNielsen, try Navicats customer support. I reported a problem with CSV exporting and they were highly responsive. The bug was fixed in the most recent update. As they continue add improvements to the product, it will only get stronger. Well done!

Worth the upgrade from Navicat Lite

I have used Navicat Lite for a couple years and thought Id like to support the company and product. The Navicat web site says the Essentials version is the same as Lite, except that Lite is restricted to non-commercial use. But there are differences that make this upgrade worth it even for non-commercial use: - connection coloring, which can make it clear whether youre on local or server db when making queries - paren matching - general polish - ¿works on retina display? I havent tested this but Navicate Lite rendered queries double-size and Im guessing they fixed that Why I didnt give it a five: - no autocomplete while writing queries. as another review points out, thats not really an Enterprise feature so its surprising they expect hundreds of dollars for that. - the SQL beautify and minify commands (same reason, but not as strongly) - remaining interface quirks. (e.g. Cmd-downarrow is Export, overriding the editor binding for end of buffer)
